MANY ITEMS ON DISPLAY FOR YOU TO TRY!
Assistive listening devices are designed to augment, enhance, and improve your listening and hearing experiences. For some, this may mean a TV headset to comfortably listen to your favorite show without disrupting the household because of increased volume. For you sleepy heads, a vibrating alarm clock gets you up and going without waking up the neighborhood. For those individuals who have trouble hearing their phone messages, an amplified answering machine better clarifies the recording, providing clear, comfortable sound to help you understand your messages.
WE CARRY THESE DEVICES. YOU ARE WELCOME TO COME IN FOR A DEMONSTRATION. JUST CALL MAGGIE OR SUE AT 1-914-949-0034 TO SCHEDULE A CONVENIENT TIME! THEY WILL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS.
We are known for quality hearing healthcare and personal concerned attention. We spend the time counseling our patients and their families, as needed.
All custom products are made from a "cast" of the ear. The cast is referred to as an ear impression. We take the impression in the office. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes. The audiologist places a special cotton or foam dam in the ear canal to protect the eardrum, and then a waxy material is placed in the ear canal. When the material hardens (about 5 to 10 minutes later) the wax cast, along with the dam are removed from the ear canal. Often, the ear canal will be "oily" after the impression is removed. This is normal. The oil comes from the wax material and prevents the wax material from sticking to the skin.
We then send the impression to the manufacturer and order your custom product, whether it be for swim molds, noise protectors, musician earmolds, ear monitors for cell phone use,or hearing aids.
Our informational seminars provide the opportunity to our patients and the community to have important questions about hearing loss and hearing aids answered. The latest technological advancements are featured.
A program to help patients who suffer from tinnitus and/or hyperacusis will soon be available at our office. Audiologists, Debra Skorney and Julie O'Shea recently attended an intensive world renowned Tinnitus Retraining Therapy course at Emory University in Georgia, developed by Drs. Pawel and Margaret Jastreboff. The "retraining" program is a multi-disciplinary approach to evaluating, treating, and managing tinnitus using basic nervous system principles that enable the sufferer to lose awareness of the tinnitus. Research has shown this therapy has helped over 80 percent of patients cope with their tinnitus. We look forward to adding Tinnitus Retraining Therapy to the services we provide our patients.
Your hearing aid(s) will be visually inspected and cleaned. An analysis of the output of the hearing aid will be measured to determine whether the hearing aid is functioning within specifications of the manufacturer. Real ear measurements are made with the hearing aid in your ear to assess how well the hearing aid is adjusted for your hearing loss.
Technology is constantly changing. We will inform you about the latest technology that may help improve your communication.
Hearing aids come in many different sizes and technologies. Each persons requirements differ and hearing aids may be customized to your individualized needs. We carry a range of different manufacturers. Your audiologist will inform you of your options, and help you decide on what is most appropriate for you.
The purpose of a complete diagnostic hearing assessment is to determine if a hearing problem exists. If it does, appropriate
recommendations for medical referral, hearing aid use, assistive listening devices or other options will be discussed.
PEDIATRIC: Children are accompanied into the test booth by their parent or caregiver. Children under the age of five are typically evaluated by two audiologists. Various testing methods are used depending on the age of the child, including visual reinforcment audiometry (VRA) and conditioned play audiometry. VRA involves the pairing of sound with the lighting or movement of a toy. A child is conditioned to this task. Conditioned play audiometry involves conditioning a child to perform a task (stacking blocks, completing a puzzle) when the child hears a sound. Objective tests include Immittance testing to assess middle ear function and Otoacoustic Emission testing to assess the integrity of the outer hair cells of the inner ear.
ADULTS: A complete audiological evaluation includes Pure Tone Testing, Speech Audiometry, Immittance Testing, and Otoacoustic Emission Testing, when indicated.
